Nature of The Bonds
The electronegativity of each element in a bond determines the nature of the bond:
Carbon (2.5) - Hydrogen (2.2) = Extremely Covalent (.3)
Oxygen (3.5) - Carbon (2.5) = Moderately Covalent (1)
Oxygen (3.5) - Hydrogen (2.2) = Slightly Covalent (1.3)
Carbon (2.5) - Carbon (2.5) = Totally Covalent (0)
